The Talk
When I meet with clients for the first time, they often seem surprised that long term care insurance is the last thing I want to talk about. It is literally (not figuratively) the last thing we talk about. Why? Because long term care insurance is just one of several solutions to a problem. It’s the problem that we need to talk about first…and often that’s the last thing people want to talk about.
“What happens when I can’t take care of myself?” Or, “What happens when my parents can’t take care of themselves.” These are tough questions. But they are questions that need to be answered long before we decide if long term care insurance is a good solution to the problem.
It’s a tough conversation to have though. It makes us think about things we don’t want to think about. If you are in your 50s or 60s, or your parents are in their 50s or 60s, and you haven’t had that conversation yet, now is the time. The time for”The Talk” is not when care is needed, but before…long before that time comes.
